8:00 AM – 8:20 AM: Check-in (express check-in for teams who picked up their Player ID Badges on Friday)

8:25 AM – 8:35 AM: Opening remarks

8:40 AM: Begin Round of 64 Matches

*Note: with only 10 courts available, matches will be staggered throughout the day, so there will be no scheduled lunch break. Teams can expect about an hour of downtime in between matches.

2:30 PM: Last call for Round of 32 matches

3:30 PM: Exit Royal Palms for after party

3:30 PM – 6:30 PM: After party at Halyard’s Bar featuring pizza sponsored by Paulie Gee’s for all players and volunteers.

**Our goal is for every team to play two matches on Day 1. If matches run longer than anticipated, some teams may have their second match scheduled for Day 2.

Sunday – June 14

8:00 AM: Doors Open (competing teams must check in by 8:20 AM)

8:30 AM: Remaining Round of 32 matches and Round of 16 matches begin

10:45 AM: Quarterfinal matches begin (Main and Consolation)

12:00 PM: Speed Shuffle Tournament for $150 gift card to Allen Shuffleboard (open to volunteers and players not in the semi-finals)

1:30 PM: Semi-finals (Main and Consolation)

2:45 PM: Consolation finals & 3rd place matches

4:00 PM: Main finals

5:00 PM: Awards ceremony

Tournament Draw and Practice
  • Royal Palms will open at 1:00 PM for tournament players.
  • When you arrive, check in at the front desk, pick up your name badge courtesy of Billy’s Badges, and draw your bracket placement. Pre-ordered tournament merch can be picked up at the merch table. 
  • Tournament discs will be available for practice on any open tournament court from 1:00–6:00 PM. Players are welcome to play full games or move between courts to shoot around and get familiar with the conditions. Feel free to mix and mingle with other competitors to share the court time. 
  • To ensure everyone gets practice time, players may be given a time limit for courts during busier periods but will be able to join a waitlist to get back on a court if time permits. 
  • Court availability may vary throughout the practice window due to private events at Royal Palms. 
  • The tournament draw will close at 6:00 PM. If you are unable to attend Friday evening, NYSA will draw on your behalf and you may pick up your name badge during Saturday morning check-in. 
  • At 6:00 PM, tournament discs will be put away, but you’re welcome to continue playing while courts are available. Note: Royal Palms will be open to the public, so court access will be subject to normal queue procedures.
  • Outside food is permitted until 4:00 PM, at which time the Talung Thai Kitchen food truck will be serving food at Royal Palms. 

Format
  • All matches are single, 16-frame games.
  • Teams change color after eight (8) frames.
  • Shooting order is Y-B-B-Y.
  • In the first round (round of 64), starting color is determined by tournament draw, with the higher draw number starting on black.
  • In all rounds thereafter, a coin toss will determine starting color for each match.
  • Each player is allowed eight (8) warm-up discs before frames one (1) and nine (9).
  • In the event of a tie, players remain on the same color and play two (2) additional frames. If still tied, players switch to their original colors (no practice shots) and play two (2) additional frames, continuing to switch colors and repeat 2 frames at time (to ensure each opponent receives a hammer) until the tie is broken. In this tiebreaker format, color order will be Yellow then Black every 2 frames.
  • Each Team is guaranteed at least two (2) matches:
    • Teams who win their first match advance to the Main Bracket.
    • Teams who lose their first match advance to the Consolation Bracket.
    • Any loss thereafter results in elimination.
Rules and Etiquette

The tournament will follow NYSA’s Rules of Play which can be found here. A few things to note:

  • Coaching is not permitted during a match. This includes verbal comments, gestures, or any other communication that could be interpreted as strategic advice with anyone on or off the court. 
  • Players may walk to the opposite end of the court to inspect a disc, but teammates may not confer during this time.
  • You are permitted to briefly convene with your partner before the start of the game during warm-ups and at the color change midway, but should not delay the game with a lengthy conversation.
  • Be mindful of neighboring courts when clearing – discs should not interfere with other matches.
  • Stay aware of your surroundings and be prepared to stop any disc that may ricochet back onto your court or an adjacent court.
  • You are not required to remain seated during your partner’s frames, but when not shooting, players should stay attentive and avoid distracting other competitors.
  • When calling discs, the two players closest to the scoring area are responsible for making the first call, if they cannot agree, a court monitor should be flagged and the tournament director will make the final call.
    Merchandise
    • Be sure to stop by the merch table to pick up any pre-ordered items. Merchandise pickup will be available during Friday check-in and throughout the tournament on Saturday.
    • This year’s tournament merchandise was designed by NYSA member Amanda Jennings. A limited selection of official tournament shirts, pins, and other items will also be available for purchase throughout the weekend while supplies last.
    Food & Refreshments
      • Coffee will be provided by our sponsors Principles GI Coffee House on Saturday and The Scion Project on Sunday.
      • Light breakfast items will be available upon arrival on Saturday and Sunday.
      • Breakfast burritos will be provided by our sponsor Tacos del Barrio on Saturday around 9:30 AM.
      • A variety of snacks will be available throughout the weekend, courtesy of NYSA and our sponsors.
      • Lunch will not be provided. Outside food is permitted until noon. Beginning at 12:00 PM, the Talung Thai Kitchen food truck will be serving food at Royal Palms. There are also plenty of restaurants, delis, and markets within walking distance if you’re looking to grab a quick bite between matches.
      • The Royal Palms bar will open at 12:00 PM on Saturday and Sunday and offers a variety of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages.

    Spectator Info
    • The tournament is open to the public and spectators are welcome and encouraged! On Saturday, Royal Palms Shuffleboard Club is a 21+ venue. All ages welcome on Sunday.
