Tournament draw and practice
  • Royal Palms will open at 1:00 PM for tournament players. Tournament discs will be available for practice from 1:00 – 6:00 PM.
  • At 6:00 PM, the tournament discs will be put away but you are welcome to continue playing at the Palms while courts are available. It will be open to the general public so availability is dependent on walk-ins that evening, and you must join the public queue. Make some new friends and team up on the courts!
  • When you arrive, check in at the front desk, pick up your name badge provided by our sponsor, Billy’s Badges, and draw your spot in the tournament.
  • Tournament draw closes at 8:00PM. Don’t worry if you miss the draw or check in — NYSA will randomly draw on your behalf and you may pick up your badge during check-in Saturday morning.
  • The draw will be updated on Friday and throughout the tournament here.
Spectator Info
  • The tournament is open to the public and spectators are welcome! Royal Palms Shuffleboard Club is a 21+ venue.
Format
  • All matches are single, 16-frame games.
  • Teams change color after eight (8) frames.
  • Shooting order is Y-B-B-Y. Starting color is determined by Tournament Draw.
  • Each player is allowed eight (8) warm-up discs before frames one (1) and nine (9).
  • In the event of a tie, players switch to the original colors (no practice shots) and play two (2) additional frames. If still tied after two (2) frames, players switch colors again and play another two (2) additional frames, continuing to switch colors and repeat two (2) frames at a time (to ensure each opponent receives a hammer) until the tie is broken. In this tiebreaker format, color order will be Yellow then Black every two (2) frames.
  • Each Team is guaranteed at least two (2) matches:
    • Teams who win their first match advance to the Main Bracket.
    • Teams who lose their first match advance to the Consolation Bracket.
    • Any loss thereafter results in elimination.
Rules and Etiquette
  • The tournament will follow NYSA’s Rules of Play which can be found here. Please note:
    • No coaching is allowed! Any remarks or motions to a teammate that indicates coaching is prohibited. Do not ask anyone on or off the court for advice.
    • You may walk to the other side of the court to inspect a disc, but you may not confer with your teammate during this time.
    • Try to clear without interfering with other matches.
    • Be aware of your surroundings and be prepared to stop a disc from ricocheting back onto the court or onto other courts.
  • Remain focused on the game while your partner is shooting. You are not required to be seated during your partner’s frames, but be sure not to cause any distractions.

Other Places to Play Shuffleboard
  • Have some extra time during your visit and can’t get enough shuffleboard? We recommend checking out:
    • Two, brand new outdoor courts in Bryant Park in Midtown Manhattan. Open daily from 11am – 7pm. Equipment is provided by a park attendant. Located in the southwest corner of the park across from L’Or Porch.
    • Two outdoor courts in Gotham Park in Lower Manhattan. BYO equipment.
    • Two indoor courts (and many other games) at The Lawn Club in Lower Manhattan
Other Fun Stuff
  • NYSA member Kofi Wilson has been teaching his middle school PE classes how to play shuffleboard, and they’re taking a field trip to Royal Palms on Friday morning from 10:30 AM – 12:30 PM. All are welcome to come watch, lend a hand, and support the next generation of shuffleboard players!

We couldn’t do any of this without the support of Royal Palms! Help show our gratitude to the club and staff by being kind and respectful.

A huge thank you to NYSA member and artist Katie Woodward for designing our tournament logo! Be sure to swing by her table during the tournament, where she’ll be raffling off the original painting of the tournament logo design. She’ll also have other shuffleboard-themed art and postcards of the logo for sale.

Thank you also to our many volunteers who are helping us run this tournament — NYSA members, Royal Palms league players, and friends who are generously sharing their time and love for the game with us. If you need anything throughout the tournament, look for a volunteer in a yellow shirt.
